SUSPENSION KINEMATICS

As one of the world’s most experienced independent bike engineers, we ensure the development of intelligent suspensions. It is our declared aim to develop perfect kinematics for every mountain bike category: in optimum interplay with the suspension elements of the rear swing arm, the kinematics must guarantee that riders maintain control, safety and riding pleasure uphill and downhill, minimizing the effects of braking and pedaling while optimally achieving the intended purpose – and fitting into the overall aesthetic design of the bike.

Enduro and downhill bikes make particular demands of the suspension kinematics. The comparatively large spring travel, used on demanding courses, must not only enable riding pleasure, but also be up to the task of shaving seconds off one’s performance. Control, good handling and safety play just as great a role as weight and a reliable operating principle regardless of rider influences.

2014 ANGLE-OPTIMIZED SUSPENSION (AOS)

MAXIMUM PEDAL EFFICIENCY, OPTIMUM SHOCK ABSORPTION

We have developed a unique suspension concept for GT with Angle-Optimized Suspension (AOS) that minimizes rocking. We have succeeded in completely separating pedal movement and suspension travel. Thus, on the one hand, the power of the pedal movement is transmitted directly to the drive while, on the other hand, the suspension only reacts when necessary. For the rider this means maximum pedaling efficiency and optimum shock absorption instead of energy loss.

In order to achieve this we exploited all the advantages of a high pivot point and eliminated the usual disadvantages. The high pivot point means that the wheel trajectory curve is not as steep; the wheel can spring back and thus achieve greater speeds in response to impacts.

The key element of AOS technology is our innovative PathLink (linkage). It intelligently controls the shock and the bottom bracket simultaneously: compressing the suspension, retracting the bottom bracket. Thus eliminating the chain growth that would usually occur with a high pivot point.

With the development of the Fox Dyad RT2 we have created revolutionary possibilities for riders to have a direct effect on the suspension kinematics through an intelligent suspension system.

Whether cross-country or downhill suspension – the desired mode can easily be selected via the handlebar lever.

1995 HOT CHILI X-RAGE

THE DOWNHILL LEGEND

We often design bikes for our customers that are evaluated with top marks in the specialist press and on which the end-user can celebrate race successes. Germany’s best-known downhill racer, Markus Klausmann, began his career on a Hot Chili X-Rage that we designed, and was runner up in the 1995 Junior Downhill Championship on it. This now classic bike was one of the world’s fastest bikes in its day.

Among other things, the wide asymmetrical bearings in the rear swing, that ensure greater stiffness in the rear swing arm, were also innovative. The single-pivot bike also scores with adjustable head tube and seat angles. Thus, for the first time, it was possible to individually adjust the riding performance from extremely agile to completely stable tracking.

From the assessment of the X-Rage in the specialist magazine Bike: “In practice, the Hot-Chili rear swing arm functions better than any other in the test.”
